The two weeks flew by during their preparations and before they knew it, it was time to go to the airport. Buffy was all over the house trying to make sure they hadn’t forgotten anything and attempting to calm her nerves. It was her first flight, not counting her free fall from the tower saving the world. How would he react when he saw her again? How would she react? Would she break down?
“Buffy are you ready yet?!” Dawn was getting impatient.
“Coming!” Buffy cast a last glance at her room and raced down the stairs with Mr. Gordo clutched to her chest, “I can’t believe I almost forgot him.”
She put the stuffed pig in her suitcase and then carried it out to the waiting car. Xander had graciously offered the transport and had arrived 30 min earlier.
“God Buffy, how much are you girls bringing? I thought you’d only be away for a week!” Xander pointed at the 4 large suitcases, “Have you emptied your closet?”
It was Dawn answering him, “We’re girls, teenagers, well Buffy isn’t anymore but I am, and we don’t know what the weather in England is like. Do you have any idea how hard it is to pack with the airline limits??” she poked her tongue out at him when he rolled his eyes. “Lets get this stuff in the car; we better get going unless you want to miss your plane.”
He lifted the two lightest and left the heavier ones for Buffy, not that any of them was light.
The trip to the airport went smooth Dawn was giddy and had a loud conversation with Xander and Willow about the British stereo type, which souvenirs they’d like and what Giles might be doing with his life. Buffy on the other hand sat with a faraway look on her face totally oblivious to the chatter around her
She was both nervous and giddy at the same time, in some way she wished Dawn wasn’t coming. She wasn’t ready to share her feelings with any others than Giles, if even him, just yet. But she also knew holding stuff like that from her sister would give trouble later on. Question was, should she spill the news on the plane or wait till they arrived at Giles’?
After saying bye to Xander the sisters went to wait at the gate.
“Dawn, there’s something I need to talk to you about.”
“What? Did you forget to tell Giles when we arrive? Are you dying? Why do you look so serious?” Dawn looked slightly worried at her sister.
“I have told Giles when we arrive, I’m not dying anytime soon and I look serious because I have a serious matter I need to discuss with you. I think you know Giles and I have some issues to work through, but you should also know our feelings towards each other might have changed…” she hesitated before she continued, “ We may or may not try to explore those feelings but I want you to be okay with it, it’ll affect you too you know…”
Dawn looked at her sister as had she grown another head, then she started laughing.
“You’ve been talking way too much with Giles; you’re beginning to sound like him! And sure go on explore as long as you keep the gross stuff where I can’t see it!”
“You’re okay with it, no eww and such? Why aren’t you more shocked??”
“You get that far away look when you read his letters, that little special smile you used to have when you talked about boys… all the signs are there. Admittedly I did go eww at first, but I kinda like the idea now, especially if that makes him come home.”
Before the conversation could go any further their boarding call came, they gathered their belongings and went to find their seats.
“Thanks for understanding sis.” She gave her sister a hug before allowing her to sit. The flight was long and the in flight movies were about as interesting as reading a book in Sumerian. That meant Buffy had lots of time to think about exactly what she would tell Giles when they arrived.
I would take the stars
Out of the sky for you
Stop the rain from falling
If you asked me to
I'd do anything for you
Your wish is my command
I could move a mountain when
Your hand is in my hand
Words cannot express
How much you mean to me
There must be some other way
To make you see
If it takes my heart and soul
You know I'd pay the price
Everything that I possess
I'd gladly sacrifice
She considered being impulsive and just ravishing him in the airport or maybe being shy and letting him take the first step, but she dismissed both ideas as she was sure he was too British to let either happen. One thing was clear though, she wasn’t going to leave anything unsaid; it had to come out in the open. The words would need to be spoken, written declarations was romantic, no doubt about that, but there was nothing like hearing it out loud.
Oh you to me are everything
The sweetest song
That I could sing
Oh baby, oh baby
To you I guess
I'm just a clown
Who picks you up
Each time you're down
Oh baby, oh baby
You give me just
A taste of love to
Build my hopes upon
You know you got
The power boy
To keep me holding on
So now you got
The best of me
Come on and
Take the rest of me
Oh baby
Buffy had a feeling she would need to do a bit of convincing that she meant what she had written, that it wasn’t just a plan to lure him back into the old routine of him being her doormat. She had to show him she had grown up and was ready for an adult relationship, ready to not only take her responsibility seriously, but stick with it and not try to let him pull the weight alone. She glanced towards Dawn who was happily engrossed watching yet another brainless mass produced action-comedy, before she drifted off to explore the workings of an overanxious, over stressed subconscious.
Though you're close to me
We seem so far apart
Maybe given time
You'll have a change of heart
If it takes forever boy then
I'm prepared to wait
The day you give your love to me
Won't be a day too late
She was woken by a hyper Dawn when breakfast was served, “How many time zones have we passed?” “6 or so, we’re not far from England now; they need to feed us something before we get there.” Buffy opened the pack she had been handed, it looked like something they served at the cafeteria before the lunch lady had been exposed as a psycho trying to poison them all with rat poison. She took a tiny bit of what looked like it once had been an egg, yup, definitely someone related to the lunch lady had been in the area when this meal was prepared, she decided to wait with eating till she had ground under her feet and not 10000 ft of air and then water below that. It wouldn’t look good if she lost her breakfast all over Giles because of nerves when they arrived, nope better get there with an empty tummy.

The reunion was nothing like the movies, no dropping their bags and set of running with waving arms, no heated kisses, no burning passion nor any limo drivers with cardboard signs with their name on it. Just one tweed clad, yet gorgeous middle aged nervous looking Brit waiting for two young Americans, both with a firm grip on his heart, one as a potential mate, the other as the daughter he never had. They did however get the warm embrace and a quiet “Hello” before he directed them to the parking lot where his car waited.
Dawn chatted lively from the backseat, updating Giles with the latest news from Sunnydale while Buffy and Giles just enjoyed the nearness of the other not really listening to the younger Summers. Neither had a desire to start the conversation they both knew was coming in the car. The drive was long and tiresome, not that the scenery was boring, far from it; but neither had had much sleep either because of jetlag or nervous anticipation and they all gave a sigh of relief when they reached their destination.
“Welcome to Bath.”
The End!
