Previously in ‘The Flight’:
Once they left the bathroom, they were both flustered. Even though they didn't leave together, the people awake had no doubt about what they had been doing. The guy closest to the bathroom gave Giles the thumbs up as he walked past him, an elderly woman gave him a disapproving look, and the rest, didn't seem to care at all. Back in their seats, Buffy cuddled up against his side, they both fell into the slumber of the satisfied.
And now, the continuance:
Buffy was awakened by the sudden shuddering of the plane as it hit a bad pocket of turbulence.
“Buffy…let go of my arm…. please…. you’re hurting,” grunted Giles.
Realizing that she was digging her fingers hard into him, she let go and rubbed his arm, trying to get the blood flowing again and to ease the pain.
“Sorry…forgot my own strength there for a second.”
“That’s alright. Are you okay Buffy, you seem a bit shaken?”
“I just don’t like it when the plane shakes like that. It isn’t supposed to shake. It’s supposed to fly nice and gently, no shake-age.”
“It’s just a little turbulence Buffy, nothing to worry about.”
“Sure, you say that now…just wait till the plane starts plummeting to the ground,” griped Buffy.
“Honestly Buffy, I think you let your imagination run away with you sometimes.”
All of a sudden, the plane was
filled with noise. The intercom came with an announcement that a Liberian
terrorist group was holding the plane hostage. Three men rose, pulled their guns
and took strategic positions so almost every corner was covered.
A forth man came from the cockpit leaving the door open -- so the passengers could see a fifth man holding a gun to the pilots neck.
“We gotta do something Giles,” whispered Buffy.
“Like what?” he whispered back. “These aren’t vampires that you can just stake and they have guns.”
“So. Me Slayer, you Watcher, we can take these guys.”
“And just how do we do that without endangering the lives of everyone on this plane?”
“Um…okay…. just let me think for a sec.”
Looking around to see just where each gunman was, Buffy started to formulate a plan.
“I know. I can go to the bathroom. It’s out of sight of the gunman. One of them will follow to guard me. I’ll take him out, leaving the four in here. When I don’t come out for a while, another will come to see what’s happening and I’ll take him out too.”
“It’s too risky Buffy.”
“No, it’s not. The fewer out here, the better the chance we have of taking them out too. We can do this Giles.”
Giving him a quick kiss, she then stood up to get the gunman’s attention and set her plan into motion. Unbelievably, it was working. Buffy had already dispatched two gunmen and was still hiding in the bathroom area after stowing the bodies into separate cubicles.
The only gunmen remaining were the one in the cockpit, the second one standing near Giles and the third heading down towards the bathroom cautiously, to investigate what had happened to the first two. Sensing his approach, Buffy readied herself to attack as soon as he reached her. Unfortunately for her, he managed to yell out a warning before he fell unconscious.
“Damn!” she swore, rounding the corner and running out into the corridor to try and take out the last two.
The gunman near Giles saw her approaching and raised his gun to fire. Giles saw his chance and leaped for the terrorist. He tried to get hold of the gun, but the guy was well trained. Meanwhile, in the cockpit, upon hearing the commotion caused by the two, the flight crew tried to overpower their gunman. They only succeeded in getting the pilot shot and the controls destroyed before being able to do so.
As a result, the plane was now spiralling downwards out of control, towards the Atlantic Ocean. The pitching and rolling, while they struggled, caused the gun to go off. The bullet hit a window, causing it and the surrounding fuselage to rip away from the plane. The sudden pressure loss blew the gunman out.
Giles, being too close, felt the pressure push him towards the opening. He managed to grab a hold of the top of a seat just as his feet went out.
Buffy saw this and rushed to get him. She reached her hand to grab his, but felt his fingertips slip out of her grip. The last sound heard was an ear-piercing scream… then she realised that she was the one who was screaming.
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!”
