The sun had risen high over head, making its way across the sky as it had for millions of years.
Buffy was sitting next to Giles on the couch. Her legs were drawn up underneath her and she was leaning her arm on him, his drawn around her and her other hand was holding a book. Her lips moved as she read the words, and a smile slowly crept over her face. Now, she understood about twin souls and the unbreakable bond she and her watcher shared.
She sighed contently and Giles looked down at her, smiling.
"I love you." he whispered gently, as his gazed into her eyes.
"I love you too. Giles, I understand now. Why it's so right. Why none of the others were. Why they never could be. With the others there was always doubt. With Angel with both knew it could never really be, without disastrous consequences. With Parker, I knew it was nothing special although I hoped. Riley Poor Riley, he was just so safe and I knew I didn't love him. He knew it too, sadly enough. But with you I *know* it's forever. There is no doubt just a sort of peace." She smiled at him. "You know?"
His smile widened and he nodded, "I know."
She ran her fingers through his hair, and pulled his lips to hers for a gentle kiss. They both knew eventually they would become lovers, but there was no rush. With a sigh Buffy pushed away from Giles and stood.
"I'll make us some lunch." Giles stretched out along the couch, and folded his hands behind his head.
"Okay love. Get in the kitchen where you belong. OOOMPH!" Giles giggled as Buffy tossed her jacket at him.
As Buffy was on her way to the kitchen she heard a knock at the door.
"I'll get it." She called out to the ex-librarian.
"Oh. Hey guys. Just in time for lunch." The young slayer moved to let her two best friends in. She walked behind them into the lounge where Giles was still stretched out; looking more relaxed than the other two had ever seen him. They sat down in their usual places.
"Giles? Where's the bread?" Buffy called out from the kitchen.
"Oh I meant to buy someone on the way home, love. I forgot." He dropped the endearment into the sentence the slayerettes didn't even notice.
Buffy walked back into the room, and leaned over the back of the couch to kiss Giles on the lips without thinking. "Oh okay thenWill, Walk to the store with me?"
Her red-haired friend nodded, and stood. Then followed her friend out the front door before she stopped suddenly and looked at her best friend.
"Buffy... Giles called you love." Willow was looking at her friend in disbelief, before starting to walk again.
Buffy just giggled at her friend, waiting for the rest of the situation to catch up with the young girl.
"Oh. You kissed Giles. I have to sit down now." Willow said as remembered Buffy kissing the man as if it was the most natural thing in the world. Buffy watched as Willow just plonked herself down on the cement.
Meanwhile back in Giles apartment Xander had backed Giles up against a wall.
"You. She. You. Buffy. Giles. Buffy." Xander said as he pushed his finger into Giles chest.
"Yes Xander, Buffy and I..." Giles smiled at the younger man.
"You'll be happy... What you two have is something beautiful," Xander said as he backed away from Giles, then he realised that what he was saying wasn't so manly, so he slapped Giles on the shoulder. "Go G-man." Then he looked at Giles again, his smile faded. "Don't you hurt her."
Giles smiled at one of his best friends, and simply smiled.
"As if I could."
